The first computerbug is discovered by one of the first women in
the computer industry, marine officer Grace Murray Hopper, in a Harvard
Mark II computer. In this case it is a real bug, a moth. The animal is
preserved in the National Museum of American History in Washington.
1948
Start of the first IT-company. In december of this year the
Electronic Controls Company of John W. Mauchly and J. Prepser Eckert, is
renamed "Eckert-Mauchly Computer Corporation" (EMCC). The
company produces the Univac.
1949
The University Research Centre MIT, located in Boston, develops
the Whirlwind computer. The enormous machine contains over 500 tubes.
